First Taste

"Lingerie - the only allowable luxury left - is unashamedly out from under and dominating spring ready-to-wear."
My idea for the name of this blog came to me reading one of my favorite fashion magazines, Marie Claire. The page was a history of women wearing lingerie in movies, while performing and now, as the spring trends go, as regular clothing, peeking their elaborate decorated bras through low cut silk tops and on display in full through sheer camisoles. A photo of Catherine Deneuve caught my eye, one of the most famous of her (above), in her film Belle du Jour, about a married French woman who, while her unpassionate husband is at work, spends her days working as a call girl.
It was quite revolutionary then, even for the sixties, a modern, married woman earning a living the oldest way how and gaining sexual independence from her husband at the same time. It's not what I plan to write about in this blog, although I would really love to see a remake of this film today. Kate Winslet would be perfect for the role, as a renowned actress with amazing beauty (I have the teensiest lady crush on her). Coincidentally, Kate channeled Catherine for the December 2008 issue of Vanity Fair.
Absolutely gorgeous! She could play the violent and slightly masochistic, sensitive and sensual Séverine Serizy so well.
I am constantly falling in love with this type of female film character. She's passionate, impetuous, dangerous and sometimes irresponsible, but she just wants to be loved, is that so much to ask?

Other characters I love like this:Kirsten Dunst as Lux Lisbon, The Virgin Suicides

Penelope Cruz as Maria Elena, Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Uma Thurman as The Bride, Kill Bill

Brigitte Bardot as Camille, Contempt

Faye Dunaway as Bonnie Parker, Bonnie & Clyde
