Wilderness Girl

Spring's approaching quickly, but I, wanting always what I cannot have, will miss winter! The snow in NYC is turning into rain & I will soon have no excuse to build a fire. My boyfriend, a Pathfinder man (a great all-boys canoeing camp in Algonquin park in Ontario, Canada) challenged me to build a bigger fire than his. Although he might be able to build fires with two wet logs and one match, he underestimates my being a complete pyromaniac. My roaring masterpiece above!

Jacks & I actually did a canoe trip in May 2008 right after we both graduated. I can't access pics right now, but I will post soon! It was cold, rainy & gorgeous up there.. We ate PB & J and drank water straight from the lakes every day. My brother-in-law is also a Pathfinder man and once their bun (currently in the oven!!) is old enough, we want to do a big canoe/camping trip. I hope by then, Jacks will have asked canoe master & Pathfinder man, Jack Hurley to build him a personalized canoe. I wish my parents knew about Pathfinder/Algonquin Park when we were younger. My sisters and I would have totally spent summers at Tanamakoon, the girl's version of Pathfinder.

JMK and I made this pork tenderloin this weekend in VT. We seared the pork, then browned chopped Granny Smith apples & onions in the same pan. Then we put it all in the oven to finish the pork at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes. It was soo good! The apples & onions broke down, turning into something like a sugarless chunky apple sauce which we added fresh scallions to. Before shot above...

End result!

My sissy making some potatoes. Notice her 7 months pregnant belly! (They are not finding out the gender or sharing name ideas yet.) This is my first niece or nephew so I was pretty stoked when I felt the baby rolling over and kicking. I'll be an Aunt in May!

An amazing ski trip I failed to mention was the trip I took to Beaver Creek four weeks ago. I flew out with a fellow CT-er Julia to visit our friends Carling & Alanna in Avon, Colorado. Carling is a ski instructor/works at a restaurant & Alanna works for the Bright Future Foundation. The best day of skiing was in Vail. Around 3 we did the Minturn Mile to the village of Minturn for strong margaritas at the Saloon. Above is my pretty sunlit picture of backcountry skiing!

Carling in the white helmet & from left, Sean, Nick & Brett (Pontiac). I wish I had the courage to move out west like these people... I would be so happy there for like a year. Until that day though, comin in real hot from my cube!

happy weekend!

I just cured my 4pm headache with this. Sarabeth's coffee, brownie & frozen yogurt. So happy right now.

Off to VT for a few days of skiing! Have a great weekend!!

A Little Attitude, Please

I'm loving Coco Rocha right now. She has a ton of attitude & flair and she seems like she really enjoys her job. (I would enjoy my job, too if I was a model, but she has FUN with it, rather than scowling all the time). We should all take a lesson from Coco to smile & have fun with life! :)

Her famous Irish-jig dance down Jean Paul Gaultier's Fall 08 runway. She also danced with her old Canadian crew at the DKNY store for Fashion's Night Out last fall. Visit Coco's blog, Oh So Coco. Yesterday, she spoke out against those in the fashion industry who are calling her FAT. Unbelievable! She's smart AND beautiful. Life just isn't fair! Also, she has a line coming out called ROCOCO.

On Style.com, where I got all of these pictures, I saw a ton of Coco with Behati Prinsloo. I think they're besties.

Repeating & writing her name has reminded me of this Mean Girls quote I just have to share.
"Glenn Coco? FOUR for you, Glenn Coco! You go, Glenn Coco."

Beverly Hills, What a Thrill!!!

"We're the girls from Beverly Hills, shopping is our greatest thrill!"

Ever have one of those moments where you cannot contain your laughter and as you try to, it escapes in awkward bursts? Okay, that happened to me this morning while reading PopWrap (again) and I just have to share it. TROOP BEVERLY HILLS. I really miss this movie. I've loved it since I was little and there is no doubt in my mind that I am going to buy the DVD tonight. I adore Phyllis Nefler & the Wilderness Girls. I wish I was a wife/mother in the 80's so I could BE Phyllis Nefler. Apparently, last night in Brooklyn, there was a convention for all those who love this movie. So mad I missed that!

Troop Beverly Hills made me love Blondie's "French Kissin'," the art of a good ghost story and how to dance the Freddie which is still an amazing move if you want to impress!

Favorites:
1. "Excuse me officer. Don't you know who this man is? This here's the man who put the space in the Spike's teeth. The man who knocked the hair off Hatler's head. He's the best. He's the greatest. He's my Dad, James the Jackhammer Shackon. Now Daddy, shake the man's hand and let's be on! our! way!"
2. Rosa, the Nefler's maid - who actually is also Rosario from Will & Grace. The woman is great at playing sassy housekeepers! Amazing. "Patches? We don't need no stinkin' patches!"
3. Tori Spelling & singer Jenny Lewis (above) as child stars.
4. Cheech - "Annie Herman, booyy yoyy yoyying!"
5. Phyllis - "The parents here are so self-involved. Sh*t, I broke a nail."
6. Phyllis - "I think I've lost the will to shop." Vicki - "Phyllis, that's not funny." (Vicki played by Stephanie Beacham, who is best known as Sable Colby on Dynasty.)
7. When the girls are earning (not buying) their Wilderness Girl CPR patch, Phyllis volunteers and then is french kissed by the cute policeman doing the demonstration. (French Kissin' is playing...) :)
7. The song "COOKIE TIME!" I wish I could access youtube on my work computer to post a video link of this unforgettable performance. I want to be a Wilderness Girl.

There are more great quotes and scenes to talk about but I haven't seen it in a year.. So excited to do so tonight!

Inglourious

Shame on me, I am posting at work... And looking over my shoulder every time I hear that little clickety-clack stomp sound coming down the hall. But I am le tired when I come home every night, so slow day = entertaining myself with blog posting! So today, on NY Post's PopWrap, I noticed these great limited edition Inglourious Basterds posters. They will be signed by QT and are on auction tomorrow with all proceeds going to the Red Cross Haiti relief fund. I saw Inglourious when it came out at the request of the boyf, and was so happy and surprised when I loved it! It was so interesting and the whole time, I kept thinking what if this was a true story? It was almost too violent to handle, but just an incredible film. I looove Quentin Tarantino's work. I kind of want it to win Best Picture. Above and below are my two favorite of the thirteen up for sale. You can see the rest here.

I was also very entertained by both Diane Kruger & Melanie Laurent's characters, Bridget von Hammersmark & Shoshanna, respectively.

I loved the costume choices for both characters, Bridget being frivolous and sophisticated in skirt suits, retro heels & the over the top gown she wore to the Nazi film premiere.

Shoshanna's wardrobe was more practical, and I love the scene where she is reading a book, smoking, drinking red and reading in a cafe with her hat tipped slightly.. So French.

This red dress is to die; I love.

NYFW!

New York Fashion Week has been in bloom for the past four days and though I have not been invited or scored any tickets, I can still follow faithfully on style.com! I've been to the tents once, to the Spring 09 Chado Ralph Rucci show, courtesy of my dear friend RAR. It was everything I thought it would be! The scene crowded & chic, the drinks girly, the herders pushy, the models thin and the clothes AB-FAB. My shot is above. Note Miss Jay front row! I'd like to think he was judging her walk. :)

Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist thinks access to fashion shows will soon be like getting tickets to any concert or sporting event, up to the highest bidder. "Don’t you think it’s only a matter of time before these shows are open to the public? With live streaming the designers are basically side stepping mainstream fashion media and speaking directly to you. It’s only a matter of time before a Marc Jacobs show is an event no different than Broadway or a Knick’s game (but, hopefully better than a Knick’s game)."

Here are some of my favorites from the Fall 10 shows going on this week.
ZAC POSEN

DIANE VON FURSTENBERG
Natalia opened and closed the show. Her look is so strong!

REBECCA TAYLOR

This last one is so ethereal. It looks like something out of Alice in Wonderland (which I am sooo beyond excited to see March 5)!

YIGAL AZROUËL

VENA CAVA

CATHERINE MALANDRINO

Also, another thing I love about fashion week... an invasion of incredibly stylish women occurs! My office is kind of near Bryant Park and on my walk uptown while I got some PRET, I saw many inspirational outfits. Today I wore grey baggy chinos, a pink cashy cardi with my JCREW supernova necklace, an orange printed silk scarf, & my suede pumps with taupe bow. xo G.
