The Holy Grail of Sample Sales: Christian Louboutin!

Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to be included on the list at the Christian Louboutin sample sale at their offices in Manhattan. I did a little research beforehand... Vanity Fair did a write up about one last year, and I heard from others who have gone that the line can get pretty long. So I forced myself to bed at 9:30 and was in line by 6:45 (the sale started at 8). I brought my book (Merle's Door), some dry Honey Bunches of Oats and even that early, ended up being ninth in line! Around 8, an impeccably dressed blonde came downstairs with a clipboard and a highlighter. She didn't even manage to make it to me before a little altercation with someone whose sister was on the list, but wasn't coming and so they wanted to come in her place. "Not going upstairs!" Babe Ruthless. I like it!

The first 15 were allowed up with a stern "You only have 20 minutes!" Thankfully, I have big feet and the 40.5 rack was waaay in the back. I hid back there for an hour and a half, searching through every box (though organized by size, it was definitely not by style - with platform strappy neon pink clackers beside demure low-heeled pumps). I made friends with another sister of size ten, an Australian girl who was looking for something wild and fun! I found her a black satin pump with ostrich feathers that exploded from the heel in a plume. She in turn found me a nude patent strappy heel which I bought in both my size and my sister's.

In all, I bought five pairs... trouble. They were insanely marked down though and I gave one pair to each sister. Also, I didn't need to buy a coffee that day - the adrenaline that was rushed into my bloodstream from 8-9:30 lasted me all day!

These little guys were one of the first pairs I spotted - and hoarded. The only thing comforting about them is the wedge heel, but without a platform, the four inches are a downward swoop that my toes will be killing me for. Oh well! I LOVE THEM!

These are for my sister, Jen who wanted something neutral and with a low heel. (She is one week away from her due date after all! :) Can't wait to meet my first niece or nephew!) Anyways, these reminded me of my first boyfriend's mother who always wore pencil skirts and kitten heels - I wanted to dress just like her.

These senoritas I am still a bit undecided about. I loved the unique metal heel paired with the understated nude but I'm not sure I will wear them that much. Should I keep them for the sake of my future daughters? Someone be my devil's advocate!

I've had these since last fall, when I helped out a friend who works at CL during market. After she gave me these, I will ALWAYS be available to help her again!

I bought these for both myself and my sister, Christina. I'm really looking forward to these being my workhorse shoe this summer! I can't get enough of the sight of that spectacular red sole!
