shopping ban for June!

For the month of June, I've decided I will torture myself. No frivolous shopping allowed. That means nothing like the skirt you see above... a gorgeous, sweet and girly skirt that would BASICALLY go with everything in my closet... No. I buy way too much and am feeling kind of guilty lately. Groceries, transportation, weekly donations to the ASPCA and maybe some light entertainment purchases are allowed only! Let's see how long it lasts! (I promise to post if I break the rules!!) More torture below... (for July!)

The Holy Grail of Sample Sales: Christian Louboutin!

Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to be included on the list at the Christian Louboutin sample sale at their offices in Manhattan. I did a little research beforehand... Vanity Fair did a write up about one last year, and I heard from others who have gone that the line can get pretty long. So I forced myself to bed at 9:30 and was in line by 6:45 (the sale started at 8). I brought my book (Merle's Door), some dry Honey Bunches of Oats and even that early, ended up being ninth in line! Around 8, an impeccably dressed blonde came downstairs with a clipboard and a highlighter. She didn't even manage to make it to me before a little altercation with someone whose sister was on the list, but wasn't coming and so they wanted to come in her place. "Not going upstairs!" Babe Ruthless. I like it!

The first 15 were allowed up with a stern "You only have 20 minutes!" Thankfully, I have big feet and the 40.5 rack was waaay in the back. I hid back there for an hour and a half, searching through every box (though organized by size, it was definitely not by style - with platform strappy neon pink clackers beside demure low-heeled pumps). I made friends with another sister of size ten, an Australian girl who was looking for something wild and fun! I found her a black satin pump with ostrich feathers that exploded from the heel in a plume. She in turn found me a nude patent strappy heel which I bought in both my size and my sister's.

In all, I bought five pairs... trouble. They were insanely marked down though and I gave one pair to each sister. Also, I didn't need to buy a coffee that day - the adrenaline that was rushed into my bloodstream from 8-9:30 lasted me all day!

These little guys were one of the first pairs I spotted - and hoarded. The only thing comforting about them is the wedge heel, but without a platform, the four inches are a downward swoop that my toes will be killing me for. Oh well! I LOVE THEM!

These are for my sister, Jen who wanted something neutral and with a low heel. (She is one week away from her due date after all! :) Can't wait to meet my first niece or nephew!) Anyways, these reminded me of my first boyfriend's mother who always wore pencil skirts and kitten heels - I wanted to dress just like her.

These senoritas I am still a bit undecided about. I loved the unique metal heel paired with the understated nude but I'm not sure I will wear them that much. Should I keep them for the sake of my future daughters? Someone be my devil's advocate!

I've had these since last fall, when I helped out a friend who works at CL during market. After she gave me these, I will ALWAYS be available to help her again!

I bought these for both myself and my sister, Christina. I'm really looking forward to these being my workhorse shoe this summer! I can't get enough of the sight of that spectacular red sole!

My friend and KKG SISTER, Alanna is an amazing artist. I visited her in Beaver Creek a few weeks ago and just had an amazing time with her and two other of my GF's laughing, skiing and frolicking. Her original painting style is reflective of her personality and eclectic style! I love her work and she's trying to sell some of it. A few of the below are already sold but honestly how gorgeous are these paintings?

Wilderness Girl

Spring's approaching quickly, but I, wanting always what I cannot have, will miss winter! The snow in NYC is turning into rain & I will soon have no excuse to build a fire. My boyfriend, a Pathfinder man (a great all-boys canoeing camp in Algonquin park in Ontario, Canada) challenged me to build a bigger fire than his. Although he might be able to build fires with two wet logs and one match, he underestimates my being a complete pyromaniac. My roaring masterpiece above!

Jacks & I actually did a canoe trip in May 2008 right after we both graduated. I can't access pics right now, but I will post soon! It was cold, rainy & gorgeous up there.. We ate PB & J and drank water straight from the lakes every day. My brother-in-law is also a Pathfinder man and once their bun (currently in the oven!!) is old enough, we want to do a big canoe/camping trip. I hope by then, Jacks will have asked canoe master & Pathfinder man, Jack Hurley to build him a personalized canoe. I wish my parents knew about Pathfinder/Algonquin Park when we were younger. My sisters and I would have totally spent summers at Tanamakoon, the girl's version of Pathfinder.

JMK and I made this pork tenderloin this weekend in VT. We seared the pork, then browned chopped Granny Smith apples & onions in the same pan. Then we put it all in the oven to finish the pork at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes. It was soo good! The apples & onions broke down, turning into something like a sugarless chunky apple sauce which we added fresh scallions to. Before shot above...

End result!

My sissy making some potatoes. Notice her 7 months pregnant belly! (They are not finding out the gender or sharing name ideas yet.) This is my first niece or nephew so I was pretty stoked when I felt the baby rolling over and kicking. I'll be an Aunt in May!

An amazing ski trip I failed to mention was the trip I took to Beaver Creek four weeks ago. I flew out with a fellow CT-er Julia to visit our friends Carling & Alanna in Avon, Colorado. Carling is a ski instructor/works at a restaurant & Alanna works for the Bright Future Foundation. The best day of skiing was in Vail. Around 3 we did the Minturn Mile to the village of Minturn for strong margaritas at the Saloon. Above is my pretty sunlit picture of backcountry skiing!

Carling in the white helmet & from left, Sean, Nick & Brett (Pontiac). I wish I had the courage to move out west like these people... I would be so happy there for like a year. Until that day though, comin in real hot from my cube!

happy weekend!

I just cured my 4pm headache with this. Sarabeth's coffee, brownie & frozen yogurt. So happy right now.

Off to VT for a few days of skiing! Have a great weekend!!

A Little Attitude, Please

I'm loving Coco Rocha right now. She has a ton of attitude & flair and she seems like she really enjoys her job. (I would enjoy my job, too if I was a model, but she has FUN with it, rather than scowling all the time). We should all take a lesson from Coco to smile & have fun with life! :)

Her famous Irish-jig dance down Jean Paul Gaultier's Fall 08 runway. She also danced with her old Canadian crew at the DKNY store for Fashion's Night Out last fall. Visit Coco's blog, Oh So Coco. Yesterday, she spoke out against those in the fashion industry who are calling her FAT. Unbelievable! She's smart AND beautiful. Life just isn't fair! Also, she has a line coming out called ROCOCO.

On Style.com, where I got all of these pictures, I saw a ton of Coco with Behati Prinsloo. I think they're besties.

Repeating & writing her name has reminded me of this Mean Girls quote I just have to share.
"Glenn Coco? FOUR for you, Glenn Coco! You go, Glenn Coco."
